I find your opinion extremely interesting, but at the same time I find it a little bit risky. Your main issue is why do we still use online CMSs. Instead of these, you propose CMS software back to the clients. Yes we do have the mobile media for that, but is this really enough? Can we really ignore the advantages of the “online” state?

First, think of some colleagues working from different locations on the same project. Don’t you think that online CMSs make things easiest when it comes to collaboration? Second, think of a single colleague (yourself maybe): There must have been times to find it very convenient to work from ANY machine that you found available. Or you may have found yourself wishing you could do that. Look around you my friend: It’s a “cloudy” weather out there. From social networking sites like facebook to massive storage sites like rapidshare, from simple “painting” sites like pixton.com to onemotion.com and tagxedo.com and, more clearly, from Google Docs to Microsoft365, its all about the Cloud. Online tools are getting better and better, CMS’s included. If the so called “WEB 2.0” was the trend for the 00’s, the “cloud” is the next big trend for the 10’s. Strong (mobile or not) machines and DSL connections have boosted online (co-)working in a continuously increasing scale. And there’s more innovation to come! Nevertheless, as I wrote in the beginning, I find your opinion extremely interesting. After all, maybe the best solution hides somewhere in between, on some kind of “hybrid” CMS’s that take advantage of all the factors…
