Ας ξεκαθαρίσω κάτι. Δεν ανήκω στην κατηγορία των Microsoft bashers (ναι, αυτών των τύπων που λατρέυουν να πετάνε "M$" εδώ κι εκεί), αλλά ούτε και σε αυτήν των Microsoft-Evangelists.

Με βάση το παραπάνω λοιπόν, θα καταθέσω την παρατήρησή μου: Ο ανταγωνισμός είναι "σκληρός" πλέον, και όσο περνάει ο καιρός, τόσο θα μένουν πίσω όσοι δε μπορούν να αντέξουν.

Δε βρίσκω παράλογη τη Microsoft που θέλει να ενσωματώσει antivirus & antispyware στο λειτουργικό της, ούτε μπορώ να δικαιολογήσω την αρνητική αντίδραση των Symantec & McAffee, δημιουργών 2 από τα χειρότερα bloat-ware "προστατευτικών" προγραμμάτων (μάλλον η στρατηγική τους έχει να κάνει με το εξής: ΄"Επιβαρύνουμε τόσο πολύ το σύστημα, που δε μένει καθόλου CPU time στους ιούς και τα ad-ware! Ε, το γεγονός ότι δε μπορεί να δουλέψει ο χρήστης είναι bug, και θα το λύσουμε όταν ο quad-core βγει στην αγορά").

Η Kaspersky Labs, παράγει ίσως το καλύτερο αντιιοτικό στον κόσμο αυτήν τη στιγμή (σύμφωνα με τα στοιχεία του www.virus.gr), και από προσωπική εμπειρία, μπορώ να πω ότι είναι πάρα πολύ ελαφρύ για το σύστημα. Ναι, η Microsoft θα έχει δικό της antivirus, η Kaspersky θα χάσει μερικούς πελάτες (όπως και η Symantec και η McAffee), αλλά όχι όλους. Ναι, μπορεί τα windows να έχουν σύστημα εγγραφής CD, αλλά πόσοι από εσάς δε χρησιμοποιείτε το Nero για αυτές τις δουλείες; Υπάρχουν και άλλα παραδείγματα (πχ Disk defragmenter vs Diskeeper και άλλα αντίστοιχα utilities).

Το google από την άλλη, είναι μια πανίσχυρη εταιρεία, η οποία όχι μόνο καταφέρνει και "αντιστέκεται" στη Microsoft, αλλά σε πολλούς τομείς ορίζει και τις εξελίξεις! Τι ήταν αυτό που κάνει τη διαφορά; Η Adobe επίσης.
Τελικά, το συμπέρασμα που βγάζω, είναι ότι το "πληρωμένο αραλίκι" (δηλαδή, ανάπτυξη εφαρμογών και τεχνολογιών οι οποίες δεν έχουν να προσφέρουν κάτι καινούριο) πουλάει μόνο όταν παίζεις μόνος σου, ή με 1-2 ανίσχυρους αντιπάλους. Ξαφνικά απ' ότι φαίνεται, κάποιοι έχασαν την αποκλειστικότητα στη χύτρα και την κουτάλα!

Χμ... Όπως φαίνεται, constant innovation is the price for survival!
