One thing that concerns me though is the support of TFS for other IDE's and technologies.

Do you have any inside or public information on this?

Yes, of course I read the TeamPrise part. It's the TeamPrise I can't wait to try out ! :)

The question was on this:

TeamPrise and other TFS tools really prove how TFS is powerful. However the most common argument I hear against TFS is the lack of support for other development platforms and technologies. It seems that most people consider TFS strictly bound to Microsoft development tools. And if they are involved in other tools also (like java, php etc) they do not even bother to try, speak about or read about TFS at all! They only evaluate solutions like subversion which is hardly similar to TFS.

So the question is in what extend is TFS strictly bound to MS dev tools.

For instance in dotnetzone.gr we published the release of some TFS tools for eclipse, mac, solaris etc by some third company. Do you know if Microsoft intends to officially support TFS for other development platforms, at list in the windows environment?

I don't know if Microsoft is ever going to officially support other IDEs and platforms for TFS, but we definitely support our web service API. As long as that's in place, anyone can talk to TFS, and partners are obviously doing something about it!

I'm sure in the near future we'll see TFS clients for most IDE's and platforms.

I just took the opportunity to ask how Microsoft plans to support and enhance TFS.

I believe the most important and tricky thing is the source control integration. And indeed the web service API is a great feature since most of the TFS competitors use propriatary protocols mostly using command line tools.

So TFS wins! :)
