Το ανώτατο δικαστήριο της Νιγηρίας επικύρωσε τελεσίδικα την καταδίκη σε  θάνατο με πετροβολισμό της Amina, ανέβαλε μόνο την εκτέλεση της ποινής   για ένα μήνα επειδή  ακόμη θηλάζει το παιδί της.   Μετά θα την θάψουν μέχρι τον λαιμό και θα εκτελεσθεί με πετροβολισμό.    ΕΚΤΟΣ και αν κάτι κάνει τις αρχές της Νιγηρίας να το ξανασκεφτούν.    Με την διαδικασία συλλογής υπογραφών, σαν και αυτήν, σώθηκε η ζωή   μιας άλλης γυναίκας στη ίδια κατάσταση. Δεν υπάρχει χρόνος για χάσιμο.   Μην διστάζετε να ενεργήσετε. Η Safiya θα εκτελεσθεί γιατί έφερε στον κόσμο   ένα παιδί μετά από ένα διαζύγιο. Η Διεθνής αμνηστία ζητάει την υποστήριξη   σας βάζοντας την υπογραφή σας στην ακόλουθη ιστοσελίδα :    http://www.amnistiapornigeria.org   Ξεκινήστε πατώντας στο Firma Ahora. Συμπληρώστε στο πεδίο Apellidos το επώνυμο σας στο πεδίο Nombre το όνομα, στο πεδίο Provincia την πόλη και στο πεδίο Pais τη χώρα. Στη συνέχεια πατήστε το κουμπί  SEGUIR και συμπληρώστε και το πεδίο με το e-mail σας και πατήστε   ACEPTAR. Μη νομίζετε ότι αυτό δεν ωφελεί σε τίποτε, ήδη με αυτό τον   τρόπο έχει σωθεί η ζωή μια άλλης γυναίκας.

Καλό θα είναι να δώσουμε όλοι μια υπογραφή... Δεν κάνει κόπο και ίσως σωθεί από τους απάνθρωπους μια ζωή!!!

Δεν νομίζω ότι υπάρχει λόγος ανησυχίας! Η καταδίκη έγινε το Μάρτιο του 2002 και η Amina Lawal αθωώθηκε το Σεπτέμβριο του 2003 (http://www.amnesty.org.uk/action/aminalawal.shtml). Η ίδια σελίδα εξηγεί ότι κυκλοφορεί ένα circular e-mail με λάθος πληροφορίες:

Amnesty International welcomes the decision by the Sharia Court of Appeal of Katsina State, northern Nigeria, to quash Amina Lawal’s death by stoning sentence handed down by a Sharia court at Bakori, in Katsina State on 22 March 2002.

According to her defence lawyer, Amina Lawal was freed from the threat of punishment on the grounds that neither the conviction nor the confession were legally valid. This meant that no offence as such was established.

Circular E-mail Creates Confusion

Amnesty International UK would like to clarify some confusion that has arisen around the case of Amina Lawal through a circular email. The email gives inaccurate information on the case of Amina Lawal and wrongly gives the web page of Amnesty International Spain as reference for that information.

3 June 2003 was the date set for the hearing of Amina Lawal's appeal against a sentence of stoning before the Sharia Court of Appeal of Katsina State, Nigeria and not a date of execution.

A new date has now been set for the hearing - 27 August 2003.

Σωστός... Δεν το είχα ψάξει...
Αλλά μιας και το είπες το κοίταξα και μετέφρασα το κείμενο... Αν κατάλαβα καλά είναι υπογραφές για να καταργηθούν γενικά τέτοιες ποινές στη Νιγηρία. Δεν νομίζω ότι είναι το mail που αναφέρει το αγγλικό site μιας και είναι αρκετά παλιό το άρθρο. Ψάχνοντας είδα ότι εκρεμμούν άλλες 3 τέτοιες υποθέσεις (ημ/νία 2003)...

However, the following cases are still pending under the new Sharia-based penal codes, which apply only to Muslims: YUNUSA RAFIN CHIYAWA, a farmer from Bauchi State, was sentenced to stoning to death for adultery by a Sharia Court in June 2002 after reportedly confessing to having had sexual relations with a married woman. He reportedly lacked legal representation during the trial. His death sentence has yet to be rescinded. SARIMU MOHAMMED BARANDA was sentenced to death by stoning by a Sharia court in Baranda on 8 May 2002. He claimed that the police beat him to extract his confession. His sentence was quashed on 19 August 2003, when a Sharia court of appeal in Dutse, Jigawa state, northern Nigeria, recognized his claims of mental illness and ordered him to be admitted in a psychiatric hospital. AHMADU IBRAHIM (m) and FATIMA USMAN (f), who were convicted in May 2002 by the Upper Sharia Court in Gawu-Babangida in Niger State of having had an extra-marital relationship, have been sentenced “in absentia” to death by stoning. Their appeal against the sentence is also pending.
