Visual Studio 'Orcas' and 'Hawaii' in the Wings Microsoft's developer division is working to put the final touches on "Whidbey," a k a Visual Studio 2005. At the same time, the tools unit is mapping out the next two releases of Microsoft's flagship toolset. An "Orcas" release, designed to synch up with Longhorn Server, is up first. After that, Microsoft is looking at completely re-architecting Visual Studio. The resulting release has little more than a codename ("Hawaii") at this point, but it's on the whiteboard.
