"When object technology first appeared, it was promoted largely on the premise that it would enable reuse, especially reuse of business objects. Today, most software uses objects, but not because of their potential for reuse. We use objects because the major development platforms and tools require it. Objects certainly do have benefits, but once the big vendors embraced object technology, mainstream developers had no choice but to follow."
